For a person not familiar with the Building Industry these questions are absolutely natural. And we have prepared this article to answer them!

First of all – the service you need is Waterproofing, as Waterproofing covers all areas of treating the unwanted moisture/wetness in any kinds of buildings.

What kind of Waterproofing will help in my situation?

We’ll need the detailed description of your situation, so that Technician could identify what type of Waterproofing will most likely fix the given problem.

To identify and find the correct method for sure – Technician has to come and inspect the site and, counting on his knowledge and experience, create the treatment plan for you.

The most common Waterproofing issues and solutions are:

1. The ground level outside is higher than the floor level, and the water is getting through the crack in the wall.

The outside ground level is higher than the floor level and there is a crack in the wall. The water is coming through this crack. In such case to fix it we have to use the Crack Injection procedure:

We complete high-pressure injection with Hydrophilic Polyurethane Injection Resin, which comes into chemical reaction with moisture and multiplies in size, filling the crack and all the micro-cavities inside the wall, making it impossible for water to get through.

2. The ground level outside is higher than the floor level, but the water is not getting through.
The wall is still getting wet.

The outside ground level is higher than the floor level and the water is not getting through, but the wall
is still wet. This is the most common situation with two different sources of water possible:

– Rising Damp

– Lateral or Penetrating Damp

To fix the Rising Damp we only have to create the new Damp Proofing Course – because the Course which was made during the construction became ineffective from time. Usually, the lifespan of a Damp Proofing Course is anywhere between 20-30 years – which depends on many different factors.

There are four different materials used to create DPC at the moment – AWC Group utilizes all four, choosing the best one for your specific situation.

To fix Lateral or Penetrating Damp we have to complete the External Waterproofing of the wall. In order to do that, we have to dig the soil to open the wall and some of basement, wash it, patch holes/cracks with waterproofing cement and apply a specialized Waterproofing Membrane.

If it is impossible to dig from the outside – it can be your neighbor’s area, concrete driveway, expensive landscape etc., we apply few layers of Fiber-Reinforced Waterproofing Membrane, suitable for negative pressure.

If the wall is really wet – before the Negative Pressure Membrane we complete Crack Injection with Hydrophilic Polyurethane Injection Resin into the mortar between the brick lines. This is expensive material, so such job is expensive – but it is worth the price.

3. The water is coming through the Wall-Floor joint.

The water is coming through the floor-wall joint (where the wall meets the slab). This joint is the most commonly affected – for some reason Builders don’t pay much attention to Waterproofing of this joint in the construction process and as a result, in 7 out of 10 cases we see the leak through this joint.

To fix it, we complete the mentioned above Crack Injection procedure, pumping the resin into the joint. Then – creating the 45-degree fillet using the Fast-Setting Water Plug and covering the 100mm of the wall and 50mm of the floor with Waterproofing Membrane.

We often face the situation, when we have to fix the faulty Waterproofing of other “specialists”. The cracks and holes and simply filled with silicone and the walls are covered with the cheapest Membrane from Bunnings – even without completing the preparations such as removal of old paint from the wall first. Of course – such job is cheaper. But you’ll have to pay for it again and again – every next “waterproofer” is removing the old silicone and applying the new one and painting the wall with Bunnings Membrane straight on top of the previous one. And still, the water is coming through…

But yep – that’s a cheaper way of doing that!
