When the ground level outside the wall is higher than the floor level inside the room, two independent sources of
moisture act on the wall.
There are Rising damp and Lateral damp (Penetrating damp) - two completely different sources of moisture for the
treatment of which different technologies and different materials are used.

As you can see in the picture, the ground level on the outside of the wall is 1 meter higher than the garage slab level.
Rising damp - moisture from the ground travels up through the walls by capillary action. This means that groundwater is effectively sucked up through tiny tubes in the bricks, like a series of straws. This process is similar to that of putting a sponge in a bowl of water.
Lateral damp or penetrating damp is the result of the passage of water through a wall in a horizontal direction, when the ground level outside is higher than the floor level inside.
Treating only one source of moisture is only 50% wall treatment.

In order for the membrane to adhere to the wall, all existing paint or other coatings must be removed to a bare brick state.
The most difficult and important thing is to remove the existing paint from the mortar joints. This is the most vulnerable place for moisture penetration and should be treated especially well.

To prevent the action of rising damp, it is necessary to install a Damp Proof Course. A Damp Proof Course (DPC) is an impermeable barrier at the base of the wall above ground level.
It is necessary to drill holes for the entire thickness of the wall minus 10 mm. For example, the thickness of the wall is 230mm (double brick), the hole should be drilled at 220mm.
Holes are drilled every 60-70 mm.

There is a lot of dust left in the drilled holes. The dust must be removed completely! It is impossible to do this with a vacuum cleaner. This can only be done by using an air compressor and an air gun.

A low-pressure Damp Proof Course (DPC) Cream injection is then performed. The holes must be filled completely with cream.
On average, after 24 hours, the DPC Cream will be absorbed into the mortar joint and brick. This will look like a wet line. This is the new Chemical Damp Course. Moisture will not be able to penetrate from the ground up through this line.
On some bricks this can be seen very well. On others it is not visible well. It depends on the type of brick. But the effect of the DPC Cream is the same for all types of brick, stone, concrete and other porous materials.

Once the DPC Cream has completely absorbed into the wall, the holes are sealed.
To prevent the action of Lateral damp: The best solution is to dig out the soil from the outside and perform an external waterproofing of the wall.
When this is not possible (concrete driveway, expensive landscaping, neighboring property and he does not give permission) we cover the inside of the wall with 2-3 coats an epoxy membrane (Moisture barrier to negative sides of underground wall)

After completing our work, the walls can be left as is, painted or plastered.
