Street. (100m from Flinders St). This is a historic heritage building built in 1884.

The building was permanently made of brick. Subsequently, the upper floors were rebuilt

and added to, but the foundation and

lower part of the building still have the original brick walls built in 1884.

The owner of the building asked us to help solve the problem of water penetration into the Lift

Pit (elevator shaft), which is located 5 meters below the existing ground level.

The three walls of the Lift Pit turned out to be relatively modern, that is, made of concrete,

while the fourth wall was brick, built 140 years ago.

Water penetrated into the Lift Shaft through this wall, like through a sieve.

The concrete walls also had cold joints through which water penetrated inside.

First things first, we injected high-pressure Hydrophilic Polyurethane Injection Resin into all

water intrusion areas. This stopped the water and allowed us to carry out further work.

The irregularities and depressions in the brick wall were filled with water-plug, and the entire

brick wall was covered with several layers of Crystallising Waterproofing Compound – is an

intelligent, self-sealing waterproofing system that transforms porous concrete into a

permanent, water resistant barrier. When crystallising waterproofing compound is combined

with water and concrete, it reacts with the unhydrated cement particles to form millions of

needle-like crystals. Over a period of weeks and months, these crystals grow, filling the

naturally occurring pores and voids in concrete, and permanently blocking the pathways for water.

The concrete walls and floor were cleaned of mold, salt deposits and plaque using a grinder.

The sinkholes, cracks and voids in the concrete were filled with Water Plug and covered with

three coats of Crystallising Waterproofing Compound .

Once the product had dried, all walls and floors were covered with two coats of Epoxy

Membrane – Moisture Barrier to negative sides of underground wall.

The picture shows the product just applied. After drying, it will become transparent and the

Elevator Shaft will even look beautiful.

 

The job was completed in 4 days.
